Summer Cycling Segments: Spa Country Gravel
Located just an hour from Melbourne, Woodend is a thriving town in Victoria’s ‘Macedon Ranges and Spa Country’. This region is well regarded for it's mineral springs, rich local history and delicious locally grown food.
For cyclists, there are amazing road, gravel and mountain bike riding options in the region and you can start in any of the other surrounding towns, Mount Macedon, Trentham and Daylesford for some great roads and trails..
Spa Country Gravel Route
This route starts at Woodend and features a stop at Trentham as well as fun downhill return via Mount Macedon after you ride through forest, farmland and a beautiful rail trail. You have the option of completing this as a long ride or two smaller loops..

Have a drink at Holgate Brewery in Woodend when you finish
Eat, stay and enjoy yourself at the Radio Springs Hotel as an alternative start/finish location
The route is best on a Gravel/Allroad/Cyclocross or hard tail MTB
Bike: There are great routes from Melbourne or larger regional centres such as Ballarat and Bendigo. If you do venture by bike, take the usual safety measures.
Car: Allow approximately one hour during non-peak travel periods for this 70km trip along the CityLink (toll road) and Calder Freeway/M79. Allow an additional 20 minutes for non-toll roads leaving Melbourne City centre.
Train: V/Line Train Services (regional/country train service) from Melbourne's Southern Cross to Woodend Station. Options to catch a Metropolitan train to Sunbury and ride approximately 35km.
Plane: Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport is the largest and closest airport for interstate and international visitors.
