South Korea 2020

Saturday 16 to Sunday 24 May, 2020

Seoul, South Korea

South Korea has invested heavily into cycling infrastructure.  We often throw around the term ‘cycling holiday’, but this is a true cycling holiday.  The lack of traffic allows you to drop in and relax even more than other destinations.  Let’s not forget some of the best coffee and food to be experienced…

Come on a unique fully supported food and cycling tour with beautiful car-free roads through a countryside that includes rivers, lakes, mountains, rice paddies, forests and more!

South Korea is one of the best countries in the world to explore by bike with a massive cycling infrastructure where the vast majority of the riding is car-free.

Arrival Day 1, Saturday 16 May 2020
Arrive into Seoul and CycleHosts will have your bike set up and tested for you. We will meet for dinner and start our food journey with a fabulous local dinner.

Sunday 17 May 2020
We will kick-start the morning with great coffee and an 80km loop around Seoul, which naturally will include several food stops… Korean carb-loading for the week ahead!

Then over the next 7 days we ride through stunning countryside covering approximately 100km per day.  Each day our local cuisine guide Min Jeon will find the best and freshest food for you. Min is the owner of multiple restaurants in Korea and wants to share his food passion with you.

Monday 18 May. Seoul – Yeoju

We ride from Seoul to Yeoju (107km). Our first big day will see us venture well out of town to historically significant Yeoju. Due to it’s geography, Yeoju was an important destination during the Three Kingdom’s Period.

We’re a bit out of town on this night so best option for dinner is at the hotel. There is a great little bike shop within walking distance of the hotel in Yeoju.

  • Breakfast – On own (at hotel in Seoul OR grab something along the bicycle path within the first 25 kilometers)
  • Lunch – On own
  • Dinner – Kitty dinner / option for personal time

Tuesday 19 May. Yeoju – Suanbo

We ride from Yeoju to Suanbo (92km). Known for it’s hot springs, Suanbo is our destination for the day. Before getting to Suanbo, we are treated with views of green hills and lush farms.

Once arriving at Suanbo, the Park Hotel hot springs are well worth a short walk from our accommodation. After soaking away in the springs, John recommends gathering at a quant place for a post ride beer or beverage of choice and then dinner.

For those chasing a coffee, there is a great coffee shop/bike shop in Suanbo which will be an optional starting point before we commence Day 5. Everything is within walking distance of our hotel in Suanbo.

  • Breakfast – On own (at hotel in Yeoju)
  • Lunch – On own
  • Dinner – Kitty dinner / option for personal time

Wednesday 20 May

Suanbo Rest Day

You would have earned this rest day.  For those ready to relax, enjoy your time in the local spa’s.  As a small resort town, there are beautiful walks surrounding the town and of course, options for more cycling.

Thursday 21 May

Suanbo – Nakdong-ri

Suanbo to Nakdong-ri, 101km

We ride from Suanbo to Nakdong-ri (101km). Along the way are options to stop, including at the Sangju Bicycle Museum – which has a range of interesting bikes and a display featuring the history of bikes in Korea.

The Nakdong River will join us in parts along this route. It is the longest river in Korea and following it’s banks will ensure we have a steady, yet relatively flat day of cycling.

  • Breakfast – On own (at hotel in Suanbo)
  • Lunch – On own
  • Dinner – Kitty dinner / option for personal time

Friday 22 May

Nakdong-ri – Daegu

We ride from Nakdong-ri to Daegu (83km). Our hotel is just near to a big shopping outlet area that has many sports-related clothing stores. For our dinner, there’s plenty of western and Korean options within one kilometre of our hotel in Daegu. There are many food options here, including pizza

  • Breakfast – On own
  • Lunch – On own
  • Dinner – Kitty dinner / option for personal time

Saturday 23 May

Daegu – Namjieup

We ride from Daegu to Namji-eup (100km). The region is regarded by locals for it’s access to beautiful hiking and fishing locations. Once again our riding day will feature stunning green hills, all while being accompanied by rivers of the region. The sun and abundance of water in the area lends itself to growing beautiful flowers. Each year, Namji holds flower shows for local and international tourists.

  • Breakfast – On own (No breakfast at motel in Daegu – there is a McDonald’s and convenience stores nearby)
  • Lunch – On own
  • Dinner – Kitty dinner / option for personal time

Sunday 24 May

Namjieup – Busan

We ride from Namji-eup to Busan (94km). Our last riding day!

Upon arriving at Busan, we will arrange bike packing according to the needs of individuals.  This will be discussed during our time in Seoul.

We have multiple dinner options for our final feast as a group. Options include a short trip on the subway to Busan’s popular beach area to have dinner/drinks/stroll. Gwangli Beach is another option, known by cyclists for it’s trendy bike shops and craft beer (30 minutes away by subway). Or, our hotel is centred around a bustling nightlife area with plentiful of food options.

  • Breakfast – On own (No breakfast at motel in Namji-eup – there are convenience stores nearby)
