After an overwhelmingly successful 2018 Tour, we are back in 2019! We’ve made some enhancements to ensure that 2019 will be even better than this years magical week of food, onsen’s, beautiful Hosts and of course - amazing cycling!

The 2019 ride promises to be even better with extra support, enhanced riding route and a rest day. Just some of the highlights of this trip:

This is not your typical cycling tour.  You will commence at Satoko's home village, ride with like-minded souls, be guided by locals and be encouraged to partake in a style of riding that supports the group.  Our aim is that you leave Japan raving about the life changing ride you undertook...

Your tour package includes:

  • 7 nights accommodation in mix of Western and Japanese hotels

  • 5 days of guided cycling through the Alps

  • 1 rest day where you have the option to do another ride up Mt Norikura (Highly recommended!)

  • Breakfast each day and three dinners (see details in the itinerary below)

  • Ride snacks each day

  • A support vehicle with a Japanese speaking host

  • All luggage transfers each day. Just get on your bike and ride!

  • Three ride Hosts on the bike with you - Satoko, Derek & Diane: 2 Japanese speaking

End Location:  Matsumoto


Arrival Day - Sunday 22 Sept


  • We meet Toyama - Gateway to the Northern Japan Alps

  • Please take the afternoon to ensure your bike is set up and ready to to roll out on Monday. There are options for a nice ride down to the coast to test your wheels.

Day 1 - Monday 23 Sept

Toyama to Shirakawago

Lots of climbing to kick-start your week on some beautiful roads widing up through the gorge

There are 6 tunnels included in today's ride which vary from approx 500m to 1-2km each. The support vehicle will be directly following the group in this section. Transfer in the support vehicle is possible if you don't wish to ride the tunnels.

Gokayama and Shirakawago UNESCO listed heritage areas with traditional Japanese villages are a highlight at the end of today’s ride

Day 2 - Tuesday 24 Sept

Shirakawago to Takayama

A stunning hill climb to start the ride then flat-ish for the remainder.

Day 3 - Wednesday 25 Sept

Takayama to Norikura

Today you are climbing Mt Norikura - the biggest hill possible by bike in Japan. Your effort of the total 2200m elevation will be rewarded by breathtaking scenery!

Day 4 - Thursday 26 Sept

Rest Day

Free time! Option to climb the back side of Mt Norikura, soak in the Onsen or go for a hike or run among the gorgeous trails straight out the door from your resort. Our suggestion….do it all!

The colours of the foliage at this time of the year is a key feature.

Day 5 - Friday 27 Sept

Norikura to Matsumoto

We are still finalising the route for today because there are so many gorgeous road to choose from! This will be roughly 100km of beautiful alpine climbing and descending.

  • A group dinner included this evening to celebrate your week.

Day 6 - Saturday 28 Sept

Utsushigahara Loop

101km, over 2000m elevation gain, starting and ending in Matsumoto City: https://www.strava.com/routes/15993997

We start and finish from Matsumoto City today, taking in a stunning climb (Utsukushigahara) close to our accommodation. Wild flowers and varying tree colours will be a feature of this climb.
